Friday, 17 July 2026: The South African Communist Party (SACP) conveys its message of heartfelt condolences to the family of highly celebrated veteran theatre and television actor and musician, Seputla Sebogodi, who died on the evening of 15 July.
The SACP also sends its message of condolences to his colleagues in the arts and culture industry as well as the people of South Africa for the loss.
Sebogodi, 63, leaves behind a rich legacy in South African theatre and television spanning about four decades of work. His contribution to the development of the arts will continue to inspire more generations to come. His work also inspired a new generation of actors who now have the onerous duty to take the baton forward.
In paying tribute to Sebogodi, the SACP calls for improved legal protection for the rights of actors and all vulnerable creatives in the arts sector. The South African arts industry is riddled with horror stories of highly celebrated performers dying as paupers due to exploitation in an industry to which they give their whole lives building. Our government has the duty of passing laws and policies to ensure that performers get all that is due to them, including royalties, for their work.
