SACP Mpumalanga PWC Augmented Meeting reviews election preparations, reaffirms commitment to the working class and international solidarity, and condemns political violence

Thursday, 9 July 2026: The South African Communist Party (SACP) in Mpumalanga convened its Provincial Working Committee (PWC) augmented meeting via a virtual platform on Sunday, 5 July 2026.

The meeting reviewed the current political landscape, assessed organisational work, and evaluated the Party's readiness for the forthcoming Local Government Elections.

Towards local government elections

The PWC noted with satisfaction that election preparations are progressing well throughout the province. The meeting placed particular emphasis on the final voter registration weekend scheduled for the weekend of 1 to 2 August 2026 and called on all Party structures and volunteers to intensify mobilisation efforts to ensure maximum voter registration and participation.

The meeting further welcomed the progress of election campaigns being undertaken jointly with the Young Communist League of South Africa (YCLSA). The Party reaffirmed the YCLSA’s commitment to expanding its organisational footprint by strengthening structures in communities where the SACP has historically had limited presence, with the objective of building a strong and sustainable Party organisation throughout Mpumalanga.

The PWC resolved that the candidate selection process will be transparent, disciplined and watertight in order to safeguard organisational unity and prevent unnecessary divisions.

The Party further emphasised that, as it contests the elections independently, it will continue to build broad progressive alliances by engaging the Left Popular Front, traditional leaders, faith-based organisations, youth formations and other progressive sectors to promote inclusive and people-centred local governance.

The PWC noted the increasing support being received by the SACP from organised formations, progressive community organisations and individual South Africans across Mpumalanga.

The Party reaffirmed its rejection of all attempts to mobilise communities through ethnicity, tribalism or any other divisive form of politics, maintaining that unity of the working class remains fundamental to building a democratic, non-racial and socialist South Africa.

Accordingly, the meeting welcomed the decision by the National Education, Health and Allied Workers' Union to support the SACP's electoral campaign, describing this development as an important step towards strengthening working-class unity and advancing progressive political alternatives.

State of the National Democratic Revolution and Alliance relations

The PWC also resolved that the current character and content of the National Democratic Revolution (NDR) require critical assessment to determine its continued relevance in addressing the challenges confronting South Africa during the present political epoch.

The SACP rejects any attempts by the ANC to target or remove SACP members from positions within government, provincial legislatures and municipalities because of their political affiliation to the SACP. The meeting observed that the ANC's declining electoral support is largely a consequence of corruption, deviations from the objectives of the National Democratic Revolution, and failures in governance. The SACP reaffirmed its uncompromising opposition to corruption, state capture and all forms of kleptocracy.

Solidarity with the people of Venezuela

The meeting conveyed its heartfelt condolences and solidarity to the people of Venezuela following the devastating earthquake that claimed thousands of lives and left many more injured.

The SACP extends its deepest sympathies to all affected families and communities during this difficult period.

Condolences to the family of Comrade Nkuna and a principled stand against all crime

The meeting expressed profound sadness at the loss of Comrade Bethuel "Xibutana" Nkuna, who was laid to rest on Saturday, 4 July 2026.

The PWC once again condemned the recurring political killings targeting SACP members in Mpumalanga and called upon law enforcement agencies to ensure that those responsible are identified, arrested and prosecuted without delay.

Finally, the PWC condemns all forms of crime in South Africa while equally rejecting xenophobia, vigilantism and attacks on foreign nationals. The Party calls upon the government to enforce the laws of the Republic consistently and fairly, strengthen the criminal justice system and ensure that crime is effectively addressed while protecting the constitutional rights and dignity of everyone living in South Africa.

The SACP remains confident that the people of Mpumalanga are increasingly embracing a genuine working-class alternative committed to ethical leadership, social justice, accountable governance and the advancement of socialism.
