Saturday, 23 May 2026: The South African Communist Party (SACP) congratulates Mamelodi Sundowns football club for reaching the CAF Champions League final and sends its best wishes to the club ahead of the final against Morocco’s AS FAR on Sunday.

This marks the fourth final Sundowns has featured in the Champions League since 2001, winning their first continental title in 2016. It is also the club’s first back-to-back final in the tournament, the only South African club to ever do so.

The SACP calls upon the people of South Africa to undertake their patriotic duty and unite in support of Mamelodi Sundowns as they represent the country.

We also call upon our government to deepen sports development, particularly in townships and rural areas. In doing so, the government has the duty to redress any imbalances that were created by colonial and apartheid rule, which largely impacted the black majority, with black women being the most impacted.
