Thursday, 01 October 2026; Given the South African Communist Party’s firm and consistent stance against corruption, the SACP in the Western Cape will issue a comprehensive statement as soon as it has gathered and verified sufficient information about the developments in the Knysna Municipality.
We hope that the relevant law-enforcement and judicial processes will be allowed to unfold without interference, and that due process will establish all the facts and circumstances, regardless of the political affiliation of those facing any allegations. In this regard, it does not matter whether one is a member of the SACP and the ANC or an election candidate of either both or another party.
We also hope that the latest developments in Knysna, including the arrests announced on Thursday, 1 October 2026 by the South African Police Service, are not driven by palace politics, political manoeuvring, backstabbing or attempts to tarnish the image and reputation of anyone affected.
The SACP remains firmly committed to the fight against corruption, for accountability and transparency, while upholding the constitutional principle that every person is presumed innocent until proven guilty. We have confidence in the rule of law, and this is what we expect will prevail.
