The South African Communist Party in Mpumalanga Province dips its red flag after receiving the news of the untimely passing away of the former Mpumalanga Provincial Chairperson who later became the Deputy President of the African National Congress and the country, Comrade David Dabede (DD) Mabuza.
Comrade DD played a huge role in the liberation movement and the ANC in particular where he served as a Chairperson of the Nelspruit Regional Branch from 1994 -1998 and continued to serve as a member of the Provincial Executive Committee in Mpumalanga from 1998 to 2006 where during this period he served as the Deputy Chairperson from 1999-2005.
He was then elected to serve in the ANC National Executive Committee in 2007 and came back to serve as the Mpumalanga Provincial Chairperson from 2008 to 2017. He was thereafter elected as the ANC’s Deputy President in a conference where he was a key figure in pushing for the unity of the ANC.
During this period, Comrade DD also served in various deployments where he served as a Member of the Provincial Legislature, including being MEC and member of Parliament from 2001 to 2004. After the general elections of 2009, he was deployed to serve as the Premier of Mpumalanga, a position he held until 2018 when he was later deployed to serve as the Deputy President.
While the country mourns the death of the former Deputy President, the SACP in Mpumalanga urges the people of South Africa to honour him by continuing to unite and strive for a South Africa that will be free from the perpetual rise of unemployment, poverty and inequality. This can be done by electing leaders who will unite South Africa against race, class and gender as well as tribalist tendencies that are finding expression in our politics.
We send our condolences to the family, friends and comrades in the movement and we will humbly give the family privacy while waiting for their updates in this regard. We also thank him for the important interventions he made for the people of the province in his official and personal capacity.
