Friday, 4 September 2026: The South African Communist Party (SACP) in Limpopo has noted the recent reconstitution of the Provincial Executive Council. The SACP congratulates the new members of the Executive Council and urges the entire Council to work decisively in realising the implementation of the ANC-led Alliance Manifesto jointly developed towards the May 2024 provincial and national elections.
The current Provincial Executive Council is a product of the election campaign undertaken jointly by the Alliance in 2024. Accordingly, the Party has a direct interest in developments within government, both as a party that contributed to the election results of May 2024 and as a political vanguard of the working class and poor.
Whereas the ANC leadership has consistently rejected our principled position on reconfiguration, particularly as it relates to joint accountability and joint monitoring of performance of deployed cadres, the SACP will continue to independently demand accountability from those occupying public office, whilst simultaneously joining efforts with the workers and the working class as a whole against high levels of poverty, unemployment, crime and gender-based violence, austerity, corruption and massive exclusion of communities from economic opportunities in the province.
These persistent challenges are a demonstration of the failure of the ANC to implement the Manifesto in the province and nationally. On the other hand, this overall crisis is principally a reflection of the stubborn nature of the economic structure of both apartheid colonialism and capitalism in our country – the solution of which lies only with a socialist system of production and public ownership being advocated by the South African Communist Party with and for the working class. Socialism is the future. Build it now!
The SACP has on several occasions cautioned the ANC leadership in Limpopo to desist from their consistent pattern of undermining tradition and openly working towards the complete destruction of the Alliance. The SACP was not consulted on the reconstitution of the Provincial Executive Council – a clear act of undermining the spirit of the 2024 election campaign, as well as the long-standing practice of consultation within the Alliance.
This development must also be viewed alongside the concerns previously raised by the SACP Limpopo PEC regarding the treatment of the Party and its cadres, including the booing of SACP members during the ANC Conference and the removal of the SACP Provincial Secretary, Cde Chuene Malebana, from the Provincial Legislature, as well as other incidents of political witch-hunt against some of the councillors and state employees associated with the SACP.
The PEC calls on SACP members to continue to work with communities and unions in condemning all these strange activities. It is our conviction that the hard work currently being done on the ground, including the building of strong branches and reconnection with the communities, will ultimately result in a truly reconfigured Alliance.
Our participation in the 2026 Local Government Elections therefore represents a necessary intervention towards a meaningful Alliance, building direct working-class representation, strengthening working-class power, and transforming the character of governance.
The reconfiguration of the Alliance must begin with the political empowerment and direct representation of the working class.
