SACP congratulates Bafana Bafana for qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup

Wednesday, 15 October 2025: - The South African Communist Party (SACP) joins the entire nation in congratulating the South African national football squad, Bafana Bafana, for their qualification to play in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The squad’s success is a result of many years of hard work in the national development of our football as the squad last qualified for the FIFA World Cup in 2002 and appeared in 2010 as hosts – the last time they made an appearance in the World Cup until now.

In these qualifiers, one of the major positive aspects to take is that, throughout the qualifying process, South Africa depended largely on locally based players, this marking an important vote of confidence for our South African Premiership League.

In addition, the respective premiership clubs that have made their immense contribution to the growth of Bafana Bafana have done so by improving the quality of their game. As such, the consistent and convincing participation of some of our premiership clubs in African continental football tournaments, such as the CAF Champions League and the CAF Confederations Cup, and, in addition, the global stage which include the FIFA Club World Cup wherein the most successful South African Premiership Club Mamelodi Sundowns appeared this year, evidently contributed materially to this success.

The positive and united spirit among the members of the squad – from the players to the technical team – should inspire us all to understand the value of unity in purpose as we seek to unite an entire nation to deal with its own everyday developmental issues since our 1994 democratic breakthrough.

The SACP calls for continued support for Bafana Bafana on all fronts as they journey to the World Cup. As a nation, we must continue to strengthen and deepen the development of our football, including specific focus on schools’ sports development as well as targeted development in townships and rural areas.

Siyaya Bafana!
