2 December 2020
The South African Communist Party (SACP) in Gauteng Province dips its red flag in honour of the memory of our late former Young Communist League (YCL-SA) Deputy Provincial Chairperson comrade Mandla Matsane who passed away on 06 December 2020.
We take this opportunity to express our heartfelt condolences to the Matsane family and relatives, comrade Mandla’s friends and comrades with whom he served to advance the course of the socialist struggle at the terrain of the national democratic revolution (NDR). Our thoughts are with them during this difficult time, which is made worse by the unrelenting and intractable Covid-19 pandemic.
Although he was an activist of our revolutionary movement, cde Mandla will be best remembered for his recent roles as the Deputy Provincial Chairperson of the YCL-SA in Gauteng. We also worked very closely with him in his capacity as District Secretary of YCL-SA in Oupa Phasha [Ekhurhuleni]. In these roles cde Mandla appreciated the dialectical relations between SACP and YCL-SA as well as the importance of fostering unity within the Progressive Youth Alliance (PYA) in the province.
While many will remember cde Mandla for his soft-spoken nature and not being a man of many words, most fundamentally he was a modest and humble servant of the people. In him we had a cadre who imbued the best values of our revolutionary movement such as selflessness, dedication and commitment to the liberation course of the marginalised masses of our people. Not only did he understand, but he lived these values and appreciated the key tenets of the South African Road to Socialism (SARS) built upon on its pillars of the key sites of the struggle.
Not only did he demonstrate clear comprehension of these sites of the struggle which include state power, the economy, workplace, communities, battle of ideas and the struggle for environmental justice, he lived them. His praxis in appreciating the role of the SACP in communities was not limited to the Alliance structures but entailed being a community activist. In this regard, cde Mandla dedicated his time as a community development worker by working with non-governmental and non-profit organizations such as the Heartbeat Community Centre and Tsohang Umasihlangene an NGO and NPO based in his township.
This demonstrated cde Mandla’s appreciation of our theory and practice of Marxism-Leninism. As an internationalist, he dedicated his youth to the finest cause, that of liberating the oppressed working class of the world. Guided by this philosophy, he played a pivotal role in helping not only his community of Katlehong, but revolutionary movement and in particular young people across the length and breadth of our province to navigate numerous challenges.
We thank his family and community for producing such a fine young cadre in Mandla. We hope that they will find solace in knowing that his life was dedicated to the finest cause, that of liberating the underclasses. In his honour we will continue to advance the socialist struggle, waged at the terrain of the NDR, as a pivotal class struggle that places social needs above narrow selfish private profits.
Cde Mandla we salute you and may your spirits rest in eternal peace.
Long live the spirit of cde Mandla Matsane!!
