SACP Limpopo Statement on the death of King Thulare III Thulare and that of Kgosi Sello Kekana III

7 January 2021

The South African Communist Party (SACP) in Limpopo Province expresses its heartfelt condolences to the Bapedi royal family and the people at large on the death of King Thulare III Thulare. According to a statement issued on Thursday, 7 January 2021, by the Bapedi Royal House, King Thulare III Thulare succumbed to Covid-19 on Wednesday 6 January 2021.

We also join the Limpopo government in its statement issued on Wednesday 6 January 2021, expressing its message of condolences to the Matebele a Moletlane Royal family and the people on the death of Kgoši Sello Kekana III.

The SACP is the first political formation in South Africa to campaign for the transformation of the country to become a non-racial democratic republic with equal rights for all.

The SACP in Limpopo remains firmly committed to a democratic republic with equal rights for all in our country. However, it is a historical fact that some royal leaders played a great and heroic role in the wars that our people fought against colonialism, its special type and apartheid variants. These wars were fought by our people in our respective geographies according to the forms of social organisation corresponding with their respective generations and state of development across the length and breadth of our land, South Africa. These were the wars against colonial conquests, land and other property expropriation, to name but a few. For this reason, the SACP in Limpopo salutes them for their contribution to the anti-colonial and anti-imperialist struggles.

To continue the struggle, we need to forge national unity, consolidate and advance a common nation building, in line with the values of non-racialism and non-sexism. We must deepen and widen our democracy towards eliminating the legacy of colonial and apartheid oppression and ending imperialist domination.

At the moment, Covid-19 is one of the biggest threats we are facing. The deadly disease is causing devastation on life and livelihood in our country and globally. The SACP reiterates its support for the Covid-19 preventative measures announced by President Cyril Ramaphosa last month. We accordingly call upon every person and household in South Africa to observe the regulations. The SACP reiterates its call for the Covid-19 vaccine to be made a public good to protect humanity. Immediate implementation of the National Health Insurance principles to ensure universal, equal and quality healthcare for all is fundamental.

Similarly, the Covid-19 relief remains essential to support livelihood.
