The South African Communist Party (SACP) encourages Grade 12 learners to give their best efforts in their examinations. Learners should not allow themselves to be deterred by the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic from working hard and succeeding. The SACP appreciates the supportive role played by educators, trade unions in education, parents, guardians, and the government, under the difficult circumstances, and calls upon all to continue playing that role towards the success of the learners.
This year has been a year of deepening multiple crises, with the spread of Covid-19 halting many activities, including classroom-based learning, calling for novel ways of doing things. Learners should be given all the extra support they need, but also take the initiative themselves to go the extra mile in ensuring that Covid-19 barriers do not become barriers to their success.
Matric examinations mark an important point of transition from school to post-school education and training and the world of work. This requires broad-mindedness, including universities, TVET colleges, workplace training programmes, and social initiatives.
