The South African Communist Party (SACP) is shocked and saddened by the news of the sudden death of Comrade Bavelile Hlongwa, the Deputy Minister of Minerals and Energy, in a car accident on Friday 13 September 2019 in Polokwane on her return from the 75th anniversary of the ANCYL in Limpopo.
The SACP conveys heartfelt condolences to Comrade Hlongwa's family at this difficult time. "I'm completely shocked and saddened by the sad news of the passing away of Cde Bavelile Hlongwa and four others in the accident", said Dr Blade Nzimande, SACP General Secretary.
Comrade Hlongwa died together with three others in the same accident. The SACP conveys its deepest condolences also to their families. We also wish speedy recovery for those who were injured.
Practical service to the people was one of Comrade Hlongwa's main attributes. She together with her protection team were assisting a motorist whose vehicle had overturned when a truck crashed into the scene. She was a young comrade dedicated to the struggle for the emancipation of the people. She was one of the young promising leaders of the future. Her dedication led Comrade President Cyril Ramaphosa to appoint her as Deputy Minister and give her an opportunity to contribute to the development of the country.
The SACP calls upon all people of South Africa to take up the campaign to end road crashes and stop the loss of such precious lives on our roads.
