3 December 2018
The South African Communist Party is deeply saddened by the death of Comrade Mendi Msimang, a stalwart of our struggle, and sends its sincerest condolences to the Msimang family, the African National Congress and our entire movement for liberation and social emancipation for the great loss encountered. Comrade Mendi Msimang died on the early morning of Monday, 3 December 2018.
Comrade Mendi Msimang was one of the first revolutionaries to leave to exile after the ANC was banned in 1961. He joined President OR Tambo in London, the United Kingdom, where he served as the representative of the movement. After his return home following the unbanning of the SACP, the ANC and other organisations, Comrade Mendi Msimang was elected to the National Executive Committee of the ANC and its Treasurer-General in 1997, a role he played until 2007.
In memory of Comrade Mendi Msimang, the SACP will deepen its work to develop a leading role to achieve a reconfigured Alliance as a contribution towards the attainment of the historical mission of the National Democratic Revolution. The SACP is calling for ever greater unity of South Africans in a widest possible patriotic front to deepen the defence and development of our democracy and safeguard our Constitution and democratic national sovereignty.
