The SACP is saddened by the passing away of Cde Joyce Mashamba, its Central Committee member and Limpopo MEC for Agriculture
21 June 2018
The South African Communist Party is saddened to announce the passing away of Comrade Joyce Mashamba, one of the Party`s longest standing activists and Central Committee members. Cde Joyce passed away on Wednesday, 20 June 2018. The SACP conveys its heartfelt condolences to Comrade George Mashamba, himself one of our Party`s longest standing activists and Central Committee members, and to the entire Mashamba family, for the sore loss suffered.
Cde Joyce was hospitalised for a while before she departed from the world of the living. A stalwart of our struggle for liberation and social emancipation, Cde Joyce made an important contribution to the overthrow and outlawry of the apartheid regime. Her commitment to economic and social justice, to the defeat of the exploitative regime of imperialism, was resolute. The SACP, our Alliance and the working class are poorer without her.
Cde Joyce held various positions of responsibility in our liberation movement, including the African National Congress. At the time of her death she was the Limpopo MEC for Agriculture. She previously served in the Limpopo Provincial government in different capacities, including as MEC for Sports, Arts and Culture; MEC for Education; MEC for Finance; MEC for Social Development, as well as the Deputy Speaker of the Provincial Legislature.
The SACP will release further details, including memorial and funeral services details, after consultation with the family.
