SACP Gauteng calls on Gauteng Provincial Legislature to urgently resolve the stalemate over current dispute with NEHAWU
7 September 2017
The South African Communist Party (SACP) Gauteng Province is deeply concerned about the ongoing labour dispute between the Gauteng Provincial Legislature and trade union Nehawu on salary increases. We are concerned that the dispute is dragging on without any concrete sign of an immediate resolution.
We call on the parties to return to the negotiating table as a matter of extreme urgency. We further call on parties to remain at the negotiating table for as long as the matter is not resolved.
We are deeply concerned about the "on and off" nature of these negotiations which has severely undermined and weakened the historic and revolutionary capacity of negotiations to resolve political disputes. Our country remains the best international point of reference on the effectiveness and decisive capacity of negotiations to resolve complex disputes.
We are deeply concerned that the dispute seems to be degenerating to the same unfortunate and regrettable levels of the strike that took place in National Parliament recently. Failure to urgently resolve this strike has far reaching implications for stability and progressive labour relations in the Province.
We remain firmly and fully behind the legitimate demands of workers. We also commend workers for a peaceful but militant strike. We are confident that the victory of the workers is certain.
