SACP Gauteng strongly condemns mercenary and bandit activity at house of Comrade Solly Mapaila

31 May 2017

The South African Communist Party (SACP) in Gauteng Province is deeply shocked by yet another life threatening incident by a group of heavily armed soldiers now turned Gupta mercenaries and bandits marauding at the house of our 2nd Deputy General Secretary, comrade Solly Mapaila.

We are dismayed and shocked that these Gupta mercenaries are people apparently drawn from the ranks of our highly renowned and respected military organisation, uMkhonto weSizwe (MK), the spear of the nation.

We are deeply shocked that the life threatening incident did not only target comrade Solly Mapaila, but the most vulnerable sections of society especially his family, who are just innocent civilians.

As far as we are aware, comrade Solly Mapaila`s family might be the first civilians to be deliberately and consciously targeted by highly trained and armed guerrillas linked to our glorious MK, since its formation.

This incident clearly vindicates the profound principle that once soldiers of an internationally respected military organisation, such as MK, turn to mercenary and bandit activities, it can only signal the decay of the revolution that was the basis of their necessity and role as revolutionary soldiers.

We are further dismayed that this incident comes at the time when we are fighting the controversial release on parole and granting of a deportation order of a killer of our former General Secretary comrade Chris Hani. Comrade Chris Hani was attacked and killed at his house by a heavily armed Apartheid mercenary and bandit, Janusz Walus.

We are reminded that comrade Solly Mapaila`s life was also threatened on the 10th of April 2017 by armed thugs who attempted to spill blood at the gravesite of comrade Chris Hani.

We are deeply concerned that our country is fast becoming a "Warlord State" with the Gupta gangs, bandits and mercenaries operating a parallel state, thus undermining a supposedly democratic, developmental and ethical state as envisaged in our democratic constitution.

We are deeply convinced that in the midst of an overwhelming offensive by the revolutionary people against the Gupta dynasty, its last resort is to engineer and unleash armed militia and mobs to defend its accumulation regime.

At no point did we expect that members, apparently with links to MK, our glorious and proud military wing, can at this early stage of our democracy be turned into soldiers of Gupta fortune.

At no stage did we have reason to believe that comrades from within the ranks of MK can act jointly and severally with Andile Mngxitama`s racist Black First, Land First movement as "fellow travellers" parading in residential areas as armed bandits and mercenaries of the Gupta dynasty.

We remain confident that just as the Apartheid mercenaries failed to liquidate the SACP, the Gupta mercenaries equally stand no chance of success.

We will engage our Alliance partners to ensure that our province, relatively stable and peaceful, is not plunged and turned into a site of mercenary and banditry activity.
