SACP Mpumalanga Congratulates the ANC-led Alliance on the overwhelming victory in the local Government Elections
6 August 2016
The South African Communist Party in Mpumalanga province congratulates the ANC-led Alliance for a electoral victory in the local government elections. The victory is a sign of collective leadership, working together as alliance we can do more. We commend the work done by all volunteers and the red brigades on the ground, especially in identified hotspots across the province.
The renewed mandate by the society should not be taken for granted. This calls on us to speedily deal with issues raised during our electioneering in order to improve services to the people. Whilst celebrating the victory, we should be concerned with yet again a decline in our percentage.
We need to reflect on what went wrong for such a decline in a traditional ANC home like Mpumalanga. In our quest to serve the masses, we draw inspiration from Mao Tse Tung in his selected works "We must not become complacent over any success. We should check our complacency and constantly criticise our shortcomings, just as we should wash our faces or sweep the floor every day to remove the dirt and keep them clean".
The best way to celebrate and be true to ourselves and the people is to advance the people`s interests. We need to implement the following amongst immediate key interventions:
- Strengthening of our local economic development units and empower co-operatives
- Creation of sustainable jobs and prioritisation of youth development
- An end to outsourcing and privatisation of basic services within our municipalities
- Take decisive actions against incidents of corruption
- Capacitating our councillors to be real servants of the people and make them accountable
- Extend working hours for basic municipal services to the poor and working class
The Party wish all elected ward councillors and deployed comrades well in their tenure. They must know that they remain servants of the people and whatever they do, should be to serve the people not individuals.
