SACP Mpumalanga July 2015 PEC Statement

28 July 2015

“Asserting the Party as a vanguard of the working class and the poor.”

The SACP in Mpumalanga Province convened its 17th ordinary PEC plenary session on Sunday, 26 July 2015 at Mbombela. The meeting dealt with contemporary political issues in our province, national and internationally, including the review of organisational process that took place in our recent Special National Congress.

The month of July is very historic and critical as we celebrate the life and times of our revolutionary stalwart Tata Nelson Mandela where we dedicate 67 minutes of our time to serve our communities. Make everyday a Mandela day.

The meeting acknowledged the strength and growth of the Party as it celebrate its 94th anniversary. The SACP remains a vanguard Party of the working class and the poor.

State of the alliance in the province:

The PEC welcomed the National Alliance Summit declaration, especially on the issue of strengthening the alliance at the sub-national levels. The fact of the matter, is that not all is well in Mpumalanga however the current resolutions of the summit and the special congress of the SACP and COSATU give hope for the working relations amongst alliance partners.

Political will to implement these resolutions is of paramount importance to the improved revolutionary working relations amongst the alliance. The alliance should be the centre of power in all aspects. The provincial summit should deal with all challenges affecting the unity and cohesion of the alliance in the province. We however, are concerned by the delay of releasing the veteran’s report on the KaNyamazane attacks.

We call on the release of the ANC veterans’ report so as there could be a speedy resolution on the perpetrators of the attacks that were muted out on SACP members.

Political Killings in the province:

The PEC reaffirmed its commitment to fight against rampant corruption, political killings in the province and any matter which delay service delivery on the ground.

The PEC calls on relevant authorities and law enforcement to continue with the investigation and release of the report on political killings in the province. We believe that, this is mostly linked with corruption that is ravaging our provincial government and municipalities and undermining service delivery.

SACP and State power:

In line with the alliance summit resolutions, as part of their implementation plan, the National Alliance Political Council decisively and speedily intervenes in Mpumalanga as relations have degenerated to unacceptable level. SACP, as an independent organisation will develop its elections strategy that will ensure a decisive electoral victory for the ANC led alliance in the 2016 local government elections.

All processes, should unfold in the manner of a reconfigured alliance and treating each other as equals in ensuring a collective decision making on key issues of the alliance in general.

2016 Local Government Elections:

The PEC noted with concern an escalation of anti-communist tendency which may raise its ugly head towards the alliance processes of the elections. The implementation of the elections’ campaign programme, should be done in a united and collective activism.

We call on all our structures to participate fully in mobilization of our communities to ensure an overwhelming electoral victory for the ANC led Alliance in the 2016 local government elections.

International Context:

On the Swaziland Struggle

We condemn the callous and disregard of human rights by the two South African soccer giants amidst the continued abuse and brutalization of political activists in that country. The participation of these two teams in the king’s cup was ill-advised and undermined the progressive call for international solidarity for the obliteration of Tinkundla regime.

We call on all peace loving South African artist, sports personalities and formations in the future to reject any invite by the Tinkundla regime. The Party in the province will continue to support campaigns and programmes seeking a democratic Swaziland.

International solidarity remains the pillar of collective struggles for every country or formation. On that note, welcome the release of PUDEMO President and SWAYOCO General Secretary, comrade Mario Masuku and Maxwell Dhlamini, as well as the human rights activists Thulani Maseko and Bheki Makhubu respectively.

We still are calling for the unconditional release of political prisoners and unbanning of political parties.

Burundi:

We recently saw the forced electoral process unfolding in that country just to affirm Nkurunziza for a third term as the President of the country. It will be a very difficult term for the man considering the posture African Union has taken on those elections which took place.

The African Union must provide a long solution to that country and South Africa with its strong diplomatic engagements in respect of the sovereignty of Burundi should play a major role to defuse this ethicized political competition for a new political order. The signing of an accord between Nkurunziza and opposition parties may try to harness the situation.

BRICS Development Bank:

The PEC welcomes and supports the establishment of the BRICS Bank as the way to create alternative against the Bretton wood institutions, whose objectives was and is to impose neo-liberal policies and structural adjustments in favor of multinational companies against the interests of local development.

The unity and strength of BRICS member states has developed fear and the offensive from the U.S as the masters of imperialism. There is a growing aggression towards these member states.

Greece:

Imperialism continues to undermine sovereignty of countries. Greece has become the victim, mainly of Germany which has economically occupied that country; and has historically did that militarily so. This crisis has become a proxy of global ideological contest between the Left and the Right.

The bailout agreement between Greece and the Eurozone shows that Merkel and Co undermined democracy and ignored the will of the Greek people, who clearly rejected western influence in the referendum which Tsipras called around early July.
