SACP Eastern Cape Statement - 7th Provincial Congress Preparations

"Towards the SACP 7th Provincial Congress, Working class unity and leadership now"

19 October 2014

The South African Communist Party (SACP) in the Eastern Cape convened its ordinary plenary session of the 6th Provincial Executive Committee at the NEHAWU Provincial Offices, East London on the 19 October 2014. The PEC meeting was convened to consider reports to be tabled at our 7th Provincial Congress and finalise other preparations for the congress.

The PEC meeting was graced by the attendance of Cde Yunis Carrim, SACP Central Committee member, who delivered the CC input to the meeting. The CC input served as an ideological and political guidance which we used in analyzing concrete material conditions here at home and internationally.

The PEC congratulated Saba Mbixane and Umhlobo Wenene FM in winning the South African Traditional Music Award (SATMA) for the fourth sequential time. We view their winning of the awards as a true reflection of the talents of people of the Eastern Cape. We trust that both Saba Mbixane and Umhlobo Wenene FM will continue with their good work in entertaining the people and uplifting our culture and values.

Reports:

The PEC appreciated the role played by the leadership collective of the 6th Provincial Executive Committee in growing our party, both quantitatively and qualitatively.

The PEC is satisfied with all the reports, Political, Organisational and Financial, which are required at Congress as per the Party Constitution, and will therefore table them as collectively as PEC adopted reports.

SACP 7th Provincial Congress:

The SACP 7th Provincial Congress will be convened on the 24th - 26th October 2014 at Orient Theatre in East London. The registration and accreditation process for all delegates to the congress will start from 09h00 to 13h00 on the 24 October 2014 at the NEHAWU Provincial Offices in East London.

We are going to congress committed to build the SACP capacity to develop policies on Education, Health and Youth as tools for educating and mobilising for a socialist South Africa; institutionalise political education and take schools and public servants more seriously and formally initiate, in the province, a discussion on our Party`s 2017 programme.

We are of the firm view that the SACP congress should not be viewed as an event but a culmination of a process aimed strengthening the Party and building elements and capacity for socialism with and for the workers and the poor. The organisation remains a dialectical combination of theory and practice and the continuously changing conditions.

We are indeed happy that our party has more than doubled its membership since our 6th Provincial Congress held in 2011 and that it has grown immensely in influence as well.

The SACP in the Eastern Cape Province is going to its 7th Provincial Congress as a united and coherent province of the party on both the issues of policy considerations and leadership.

Issued by SACP Eastern Cape.
