SACP Mpumalanga Provincial Executive Committee statement

SACP Mpumalanga Provincial Executive Committee statement

17 March 2014

The 8th Congress Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) of the South African Communist Party (SACP) in Mpumalanga Province convened its 7th PEC Plenary Session on Sunday, 16th March 2014 at Mbombela. The meeting focused on consolidating the ongoing election work and to receive reports from districts on the launching of Chris Hani Red Brigades. The meeting further adopted Political, Organisational and financial reports.

The meeting took place after successful Nationwide campaigns on the freedom of the Palestinians during the Israel Apartheid Week which ran from the 10th - 16th March 2014.

Advance the struggle for total liberation of Palestinians

Our struggle icon, the late Tata Nelson Mandela said “Our freedom is incomplete without the freedom of the Palestinians”. The Israel Apartheid Week was a success with progressive structures convening campaigns across the country against the Zionist aggression in the Middle-East. We will continue to call for the total liberation for the Palestinians and work with progressive forces to make this a success.

Culture and Religion used to entrench Tinkundla Regime

We have noted developments where relatives and cronies of King Mswati were appointed into strategic positions. Culture and religion are being used to entrench this excessive monarchy. We condemn the continued undermining of democratic processes in that country and further call for unity amongst the progressive structures in Swaziland.

We Condemn threats and plots against SACP Leaders

We cannot accept to live under threat whilst we are supposed to be enjoying 20 years of democratic breakthrough, threatened by former apartheid agents masquerading as revolutionaries while advancing StratCom agendas.

We call on the Minister of Police to act quickly and release the report on political killings in the province. The report on political killings cannot just be held as a flower-pot to decorate the police ministry. We reiterate our call to the minister to arrest criminals who are operating and masquerading as if they are law abiding citizens.

SACP in the province organised a picket to the office of the National Commissioner in 2013 and the message was clear that failure to take this matter into cognizance, a bigger march will be organised.

Advancing the struggle through our campaigns

The SACP districts in the province managed to successfully launch Chris Hani Red Brigades in order to strengthen and intensify the work already done on the ground.

The province will hold a Provincial Council on the 23rd March 2014 in order to review the mandate given to the 8th Congress PEC since April 2013 by the branches and also launch the provincial Chris Hani Red Brigades. We will have a massive door-to-door campaign before the Council starts as we resolved that all our programmes will be intertwined with election work.

The Financial Sector Campaign Coalition met with Thembisile Hani Local Municipality as a follow-up to a meeting the coalition had with hawkers association in Kwaggafontein and Kwa-Mhlanga. We will continue to unite the working class through this campaign in our expedition to transform the financial sector to serve our people. We further call on all the hawkers across the province to get in touch with our district structures.

De-tenderize the State

We noted the commitment of the ANC manifesto to create a central tender board. In the quest of curbing and dealing away with corruption, the centralised system may be a good move but the ANC-led government should guard against parasitic bourgeoisies and lumpen-tenderpreneurs who survive through manipulation of tendering process.

We call on our progressive government to de-tenderize basic services such as security, catering, laundry and cleaning services in all the state owned enterprises and government institutions as a start and strengthen the public sector.

Municipal officials and other Mayors within the province continue to be sacrificial lambs due to lumpen-tenderpreneurs’ zeal to milk the state. Those who are defiant are recalled. In some instances communities revolt not as a result of poor service delivery but because of the lumpen-tenderpreneurs who are hell-bent on denting the good name of the ANC because of greediness, the worst example being Bushbuckridge, Mbombela and Victor Khanye municipalities.

Forward to a decisive ANC Electoral Victory

The SACP in the province is pleased with the commitment of its structures to work hard for a decisive victory for the African National congress. The SACP through its Chris Hani Red Brigades will among others focus on hotspot across the province where there are some challenges.

We will work closely with ANC, SANCO and COSATU to make sure our unity delivers for the decisive electoral victory for the alliance elections.

We have also directed our structures to go all out in assisting COSATU structures to host successful May Day rallies and entrenching our campaigns in the workplace.

We will continue with our campaigns and programmes as mandated by the 8th congress and further make sure we implement them without fear or favor.

We call for the total ban of labour brokers in the province at all spheres of government. This modern day slavery continues to be a burden for the working class.
