SACP Gauteng PEC statement on the `Red Weekend` Program

SACP Gauteng PEC statement on the `Red Weekend` Program

19 September 2013

The SACP Gauteng province will mark its official membership month in September with the “Red Weekend” program of activities. The membership month precedes the anniversary of the Great October Socialist Russian Revolution of 1917 and is a period associated with the intensification of the SACP Red October program of action. Members of our party will deepen contact with the masses around campaigns, engage in party building actions, promote ideas arising out of ‘The South African Road to Socialism’ (SARS), and explain the tremendous benefits of socialism for the working class.

We will also use this program to induce our election work and mobilise our members in support of the African National Congress (ANC) in order to consolidate deepen and advance the National Democratic Revolution.

The 20-22 September “Red Weekend” will see the launch of a number of provincial and district activities focussing on recruitment and the Know Your Neighbourhood Campaign.

We are also laying ground to mark the important role played by the international communist movement in the 20th century struggles against imperialism in which the working class succeeded to unleash its power, leading to the victory of the Great October Socialist Revolution; the defeat of fascism and counter-revolution and helping in the overthrow of colonialism worldwide.

The main pillars of the Red Weekend are:

  • Recruitment campaign
  • Know Your Neighbourhood campaign
  • Transformation and diversification of the financial sector and anti-evictions campaign
  • 2014 National Elections and mobilisation behind the African National Congress

Members of the Central Committee (CC) of the SACP, the Provincial Executive Committee (PEC), Districts and Branches will take part in province wide activities as follows:
