SACP Eastern Cape statement on the municipalities

SACP Eastern Cape statement on the municipalities

18 January 2013

We, the South African Communist Party (SACP) in the Eastern Cape notes with great concern the instability in some of the municipalities within the province which is the closest sphere to the people for the provisioning of basic services.

It is in this context that we condemn the attacks on the Municipal Manager of Mbizana Local Municipality, Cde Simphiwe Thobela and other committed servants of the people with contempt they deserve. We view the work he is doing and his stance against corruption as very imperative in building a corruption free governance that responds expeditiously to the needs and aspirations of the workers and the poor. It is this kind of work and commitment that will ensure that services are rendered at a much needed velocity.

We condemn with the strongest contempt it deserves all the efforts made by some corrupt elements to remove Cde Thobela and anyone else in these municipalities whether by force or any other form. “We view these attempts as nothing else but concerted efforts aimed at milking the resources of the municipalities for corrupt elites and thereby compromising service delivery; these efforts are carried out by people who lack appreciation of a good work done under his leadership as they are hell-bent in serving business cartels. We remain resolute in our resolve that service delivery to our people must be at the center of any government institution.” said Xolile Nqatha, SACP Provincial Secretary.

We once again call upon African National Congress (ANC) and alliance to do the expected in resolving these challenges in all these municipalities that are engulfed by unending political infightings; for these political infightings have a huge bearing on the alliance servicing the populace of the Eastern Cape. The revolutionary alliance must act promptly without any fear or favour in bringing about the resolution to all these challenges in the Eastern Cape municipalities for and with the people of the province.

We also urge the ANC leadership to provide political guidance and leadership in Ngqushwa Local Municipality wherein political leadership of the institution is in loggerheads with the workers at the detriment of servicing our people who entrusted them with the responsibility to service them. For what is constantly going in Ngqushwa municipality can only reverse what we have gained in that municipality.

As the SACP we recommit ourselves to continue supporting all the efforts of rooting out corruption in all government institutions. We will continue to work with all the government political and administrative leaders who are steadfast on rooting out corruption and rendering services efficiently.

We believe that the corruption free government is capable of servicing the people as a whole as corruption constitute a daylight robbery to the workers and the poor. In 2013 the year of the district as it has been declared by the SACP Central Committee, We reiterate our call made in our Red October Campaign of 2012 for the basic services for all and en end to corruption.

Issued by the SACP Eastern Cape.
