SACP Eastern Cape on matric results
3 January 2013
The South African Communist Party (SACP) in the Eastern Cape welcomes the outcomes of the grade 12 (matric) examsof the class of 2012. Our province, The Eastern Cape has moved from 58.1 % pass rate in 2011 to 61.9 % in 2012, which represent a qualitative improvement of 3.8% considering the hard realities we are facing. This is an important foundation for the significant improvement going forward.
We would like to congratulate the Department of Education, and all the stakeholders in education under the leadership ofMEC of Education; Honorable Mandla Makhuphula for the hard work done and for heeding to the call made by the President of the Republic Honorable Jacob Zuma of making education a societal matter as it is a societal matter.
We would also like to thank the committed teachers and government officials who continued to put the future of the Eastern Cape learners before their own interest even when challenges mounted. The teachers who continued to give all their energies despite the conditions they teach under. It is the role played by the teachers, parents and scholars that yielded this qualitative improvement.
The overall matric result and the position our province is occupying is also a true reflection of socio-economic conditions of our province. It is a testimony of our historical inequalities and underdevelopment. The Eastern Cape in terms of numbers relatively produced a largest number but because we have a largest number of learners who enrolled for the class of 2012 we got a huge number of those who didnt make it.
The intervention by the National Department of Basic Education in the province must not only exist in papers but in real terms. We cannot continue with the intervention that is not coupled with financial injection for the turnaround plan. The situation in our province mandates that we all work hard and tirelessly in changing things for what we have does not represent prospects for the brighter future for the children of this province.
We would like to congratulate all the learners who sat for the exams of the year 2012 and in particular those who have passed. You have made us proud, may you have a brighter future, let the sky be the limit.
To all those due to many factors have stumbled, stand up and dust yourselves; make use of all available opportunities. We urge the parents and families to support them in this regard and the department to ensure that they receive all the support in directing them to available options that are provided by the department.
We call on the in the institutions of Higher Learning and training to ensure that these students receive all the necessary support in enrolling. Parents must also encourage their children to enroll with the FET Colleges; if we are to embark on massive skills development it would mean de-stigmatization of the FET Colleges.
We, the SACP recommit ourselves to working even harderwith the people of province to ensure that we receive better results in the coming year. We are calling upon all stakeholders involved in education to all issues in appropriate platforms to avoid loss in tuition time.
We are calling upon the Department of Education in the province implement all decision taken in bargaining platforms, it is the responsibility of all of the stakeholders involved in education to ensure that there is no tuition time lost for this coming academic year and the future.
