Gauteng SACP, COSATU, SANCO and Greater Lenasia Concerned Residents Association held a succesful meeting with SA Human Rights Commission on demolition of Lenasia houses

SACP, COSATU, SANCO AND LENASIA CONCERNED RESIDENTS ASSOCIATION held a highly successful meeting with the Chairperson of the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC), Advocate Lawrence Mushwana. The meeting was also joined by the Deputy President of SANCO, Mr Lemias Mashile.
The purpose of the meeting was to exchange and share information about the inhuman and insensitive demolition of houses of Lenasia residents by the Gauteng Provincial Department of Housing.
SAHRC was commended, and received full support for the proactive, principled and decisive action of instituting an urgent court application to prevent and protect violation of human rights of vulnerable groups, especially women, children and people with disability.
Meeting in principle agreed on the need to conduct a deeper and intense investigation on the real and root cause of the problem, whilst seeking solutions to manage the devastating effects of the demolition of houses.
Parties to the meeting agreed to cooperate and work closely to ensure that a proper and sustainable solution is found that promotes human dignity and protection of vulnerable groups, especially women, children and people with disability.
