SACP Mpumalanga Provincial Executive Committee Press Statement
20 February 2012
The PEC met in Mbombela, Numsa Local Office on Sunday the 19th February 2012. This was the first PEC of this year, taking place after our first PWC on the 16th January.
The PEC welcomed the successful Che Guevara Memorial Lecture at Phillip Radebe District in Mbombela on the 18th February 2012 addressed by the CC member Cde Solly Mapaila.
The PEC further acknowledged the Successful Joe Slovo commemorations held in January in Ephraim Mogale District at Thembisile, in Harold Molobela District at Bushbuckridge and in Gert Sibande District.
The critical issues dealt with are the following :-
Assault by media
The PEC is aware of the journalists who issue positive publication at a price as part of the corrupt practices by the present capitalist media. The PEC will follow up to the Press Ombudsmen the letter written to Mpumalanga News on their biased reporting against the SACP in the issue of the 16th February 2012.
The PEC has also condemned the sensationalisation by media of the Sub judice matter relating the Provincial Chairperson. The PEC reiterated that in this period the lumpen tenderpreneurs are so desperate in that their desperate tendencies will also appear against anyone standing on their way.
Programme against Corruption
The scourge of corruption in this Province has been affirmed by the Auditor General Report that 80% of the government tenders have been issued without following proper supply chain procedures . The SACP has therefore entered into a joint programme with COSATU to root out corruption in the Province. The SACP has joined COSATU in the protest march to the MP Legislature on the 07th March to register the issues raised on corruption. The corruption has multiple effects than stealing from the poor, the tenders issued by corruption result to poor service delivery, the poor quality and expensive service. Services rendered are done at a higher price when they have to be redone or corrected.
Sunset Clause
The challenges relating to the land will not be addressed as long the property clause still exists in our Constitution. The PEC has resolved to lobby for the total scrap of this compromise clause, that its time has already expired.
Protection of State information Bill
The SACP will use the forthcoming Public Hearing platforms to position the decisions of the party on this bill. The gains of hard fought democracy will be reversed if this bill cannot be defended. As the capitalist press wants to access every information to suppress any emerging progress against capitalism. Their fight is in the context of counter-revolutionary elements to maintain the status quo.
