SACP Northern Cape statement on SACP members who are contesting Local Government Elections as independents
4 April 2011
The SACP in the province is disturbed to learn that there are members of the Party who have registered as independent candidates, and will be contesting the ANC led alliance at the up-coming local government elections. The Party would like to distance its self from any Party member who will be contesting as an independent candidate for the forth coming local government elections.
We have suspend Cde Leon Renier in Keimoes who has registered to contest ward six (6) as ward councillor in the Siyanda region at the Kai Garib municipality.
We view his behaviour to be opportunistic and motivated by self serving interest which has nothing to do with serving our communities.
As the SACP we believe that the interest of the working class and the poor as well as our communities are best served under an ANC LED ALLIANCE and people centred local government ,no individual acting on his own is capable of fundamentally altering the living conditions of the working class and the poor.
The discussion on the SACP contesting state power was concluded at its 12th National Congress in Port Elizabeth in 2007, when the Party resolved to participate in the elections in the context of an ANC LED reconfigured Alliance.
The SACP further takes this opportunity to caution anyone who seeks to undermine the policy and resolutions of the Party, that serious action will be taken against them, as no counter revolutionary conduct shall be permitted. We therefore call on all SACP members and the workers and the poor to `Do it for Chris Hani` and vote the ANC in the upcoming local government elections because ,indeed `working together we can build better communities`
