SACP Mpumalanga Media Statement
23 February 2010
The SACP in Mpumalanga celebrated the 43rd anniversary of the murder of the legendary internationalist communist revolutionary Ernesto "CHE" Guevara at the hands of the CIA in 1967. In memory and honour of the revolutionary patriot, we had different activities in two of our districts on Saturday and Sunday in our province.
On Saturday comrade Blade Nzimande, the General Secretary of the SACP launched the Chris Hani Street Committee. These Street Committees are part of re-engaging our people, to continue lead their community and facilitate the transformation process taking place in our province and the country.
In Jeppes Reef a family of twelve, which was living in a two roomed mud house, was given the keys to their new four roomed house by the General Secretary, thanks to the effort of the local SACP branch, which made sure that working class family will not dread the coming rainy season, which was the case when they were still living in their old unsafe mud house.
In Bhuga the General Secretary presided over a prize giving ceremony for young people who participated in different activities, like cultural dance, drum majorettes and local choirs which was organized by the local SACP branch to promote Sports and Cultural activities to young people, as a way to remove temptations to abuse illegal substances.
The key message delivered by the General Secretary in all these activities was the important role that communities should play, in ensuring basic service delivery in those areas, Strengthening of our revolutionary alliance, the fight against corruption, patronage and nepotism. The biggest threat, that the General Secretary warned against as the serious impediment, to the attainment of social justice and transformation in our country, and the introduction of money in our revolutionary alliance to influence who get to be elected in our leadership structures.
In Ephraim Mogale district, a Che Guevara memorial lecture was held on Sunday in Kwamhlanga community hall. Comrade Africa Mapaila our Central Committee member delivered a hard hitting lecture to a packed hall and reminded Party cadres about the impact of comrade Che Guevara the peoples revolutionary hero had on the history of African and South American revolutions and sacrifices he made, at a serious personal cost to fight against imperialism and its savage system of capitalism.
May the spirit of this peoples martyr live on. Issued by the SACP Mpumalanga province
