SACP Mpumalanga holds its 4th Provincial Executive Committee of the 6th Provincial Congress

SACP Mpumalanga holds its 4th Provincial Executive Committee of the 6th Provincial Congress.

06 February 2007

The Communist Party Provincial Committee in its 4th Provincial Executive Committee of the 6th Congress held at Nelspruit in the week-end of 4-5 February 2007 added its voice to those who Salute the sterling work that was carried by cde Mama Adelaide Tambo, (the wife of the late president of the ANC, Cde Oliver Tambo) who passed away during the course of this week. Cde Adelaide Tambo, in her own right, has contributed immensely to the struggle for the emancipation of our people in this country. The Communist party in Mpumalanga would like to join the Central committee and the world in expressing its heartfelt sympathies to the Tambo family, the ANC and the friends of the Tambo family throughout the length and breaths of the globe. May her soul rest in peace.

The Provincial Executive Committee reviewed the developments in the period since the last PEC meeting in December and was impressed by the commitment and vigour that members had put in their work of building the SACP in Mpumalanga. The province continues to grow from strength to strength and have taken various campaigns on a number of aspects that affect the masses of our people in the province, including the public transport challenges and plight of farm workers and dwellers.

The Executive Committee decided to intensify its recruitment campaign that will see the SACP growing by 16 000 by the end of December 2007 through a campaign called “one member per quarter by every member.’ The PEC has also discussed the input made in the Central Committee of December 2006 on the South African Road to Socialism and endorsed the idea by the Central committee to dub the year 2007 ‘the policy year´. The PEC felt that the programme for the year should be informed by the fact that we are in a National Democratic Revolution that, for the South African Communist Party, should be socialist oriented.  To this end adopted a programme for the year in which we will see communists and members of the public being mobilized around the following campaigns:

Pro poor public transport system, where the province shall work with public commuters structures, transport committees, transport Authorities in highlighting a need for public investment to be directed to transport needs of the poor and the working class. Moloto Development Corridor at Ekangala District and Great North Transport in Bushbuckridge Munipality shall be a centre of focus. Issues of access to public transport by People with disabilities and safe school transport system will form some of the highlights

Transformation of the Financial Sector, which will come through intensified Financial Sector campaign, including, call for Blanket Amnesty against Credit bureau.

Land and Agrarian reform, where various stakeholders shall be rallied around the need to speed up the  implementation of the Land Summit resolutions aimed at accelerating the Land and agrarian reform through: speedy resolution of restitution claims, accelerate the Land acquisitions through LRAD, End the capitalist willing buyer willing seller principle, Put an end  to inhumane evictions of farm workers and farm dwellers, Upgrade the tenure right of farm dwellers and improve conditions of work and living on farms.

Strengthening the capacity of the state to respond to the needs of the poor and the working, where Anti privatization campaigns and the call for strengthening of public sector agencies and entities.

The PEC congratulated the ANC in Mpumalanga for having hosted a successful National 95th Anniversary of the ANC, An occasion that has always marked a time at which over the years all members would always look foreward to receiving orders of the year to come and clarity on party line.

The Communist party also conveyed its words of appreciation to the Secretary of COSATU for the unwavering support that the federation and its affiliates have provided to the Communist Party throughout the year 2006.

The SACP will also like to congratulate the Mpumalanga Government for the focused effort towards improving the lives of our people. The year 2006 went without any incident that seek to undermine the Democratic Government in the province, instead we have seen an improvement of school results, Municipalities winning top positions in the Vuna awards and the birth of a focus plan that concentrates on five Flag ship that seek to respond to the challenges of joblessness, poverty, and water and sanitation in the province. To this we would like to congratulate the Provincial Government led by Cde Thabang Makwetla.

Lastly, the SACP in Mpumalanga would like to condemn the continued inhumane farm evictions and ill-treatment of farm workers and dwellers that takes place throughout the length and breaths of the province. We would like to express our unwavering support for Cde Lulama Xingwana, The Minister for Agriculture and Land Affairs on her stance to condemn these heinous acts by some sections of unpatriotic farmers against farm workers and farm dwellers. “Mpumalanga SACP stand by you and we are saying irregardless of what TAU say, There are inhumane evictions that are taking place and we are saying if they want example, we have one too many, including one that has just happened this week we are coming from, where a farmer have just dumped an old couple with grand children, 17 herd of cattle and two horses in the middle of nowhere on a rainy day.  Equally so we would like to say that we shall continue give unwavering support to Cde Jacob Zuma and any other loyal member of the movement during trying times.
