SACP To Hold Congress In KwaZulu Natal

The General Secretary of the South African Communist Party (SACP), Blade Nzimande, will address the 3rd Provincial Congress of the SACP in the KwaZulu Natal Province as detailed below.

The Congress, to be attended by 280 delegates, will start on Friday, 08 June and will be concluded with the announcement of its resolutions at a Press Conference to be held from 13h00 on Sunday, 10 June 2001.

Also invited are delegates from the ANC, COSATU, SANCO, SASCO, COSAS, ANC-YL, MPs, MPLs, Mayors, SACP Veterans SACP members in government, academics, the Swaziland Solidarity Network and SMME organisations.

The Congress will deliberate on a proposal for a Red Weekend Against
Blacklisting targeting Credit Bureaus and the need for their regulation,
said Smiso Nkwanyana, SACP Provincial Secretary in KwaZulu Natal.

Held under the theme +IBw-Build People+IBk-s Power +IBM- Build Socialism Now, the Congress Agenda includes the following:

• A Political Report on the State of the Province including an assessment of
  the ANC-IFP government and peace initiatives
• The role of traditional leaders in the wake of the IFP decision to boycott
  local government and service delivery
• The role of the SACP in fighting racism amongst the police and rural areas
  in the Province
• The escalation of land and rural struggles for accelerated land reform in
  KwaZulu Natal
• The building of co-operatives and co-operative banks as part of taking
  forward the SACP-led campaign on the financial sector
• How to take the struggle against HIV/AIDS forward given its high incidence
  in the Province

This is an important Congress which must ensure that Communists in KwaZulu
Natal contribute to peace and a better life for all in the province and the
country as a whole, said Smiso Nkwanyana, SACP Provincial Secretary in
KwaZulu Natal.
