SACP-COSATU Visit to Mpumalanga School
30 January 2002
The Mpumalanga Provincial leadership of the South African Communist Party
(SACP), and the Congress of South African Trade Unions will be joined by
Comrade Juby Makhabane - the Mayor of Delmas, in leading an alliance
delegation to the Mdumiseni Primary School in Delmas as detailed below.
DATE : Thursday, 31 January 2002
TIME : 10h00
VENUE : Mdumiseni Primary School, Delmas
These are some of the problems facing the Mdumiseni Primary School which
were highlighted in an article which appeared in the City Press newspaper on
27 January
- 261 learners with 6 teachers and only 1 classroom meaning that the
majority of classes take place in open air - the classroom is built with mud
- no ablution facilities leading to vulnerability to a range of diseases
- lack of adequate support from the Provincial Department of Education
- Possible eviction from the land where the school is by the land owner (the
Methodist Church)
Effective learning and education is impossible under these inhuman conditions. Through this visit, the SACP and COSATU will meet with the Provincial MEC for Education, teachers, learners, affected communities local businesses, the local government and local structures of the ANC, SACP and COSATU in order to address these problems.
