Cronin to engage white farmers in the Eastern Cape

As part of the Red October Campaign 2004, the SACP Deputy General Secretary Comrade Jeremy Cronin is to meet and discuss with white farmers in the Eastern Cape. Amongst the issues to be raised by the SACP is the positive role the white farming community could play in ensuring that land and agrarian reform moves in a manner that it will address land disparities created by apartheid and colonialism.
Comrade Jeremy Cronin will be meeting with Ugie / Maclear commercial farmers, emerging farmers, farm workers and the community of Ugie. Amongst the issues he will address will be:
1. The slow pace of Land and Agrarian Reform
2. The problems of the willing buyer, willing seller policy
3. How to improve the conditions of Farm workers in terms of their basic human rights, labour rights and their rights
to services
This meeting is the first of many meetings to come of this nature, planned by the SACP in it's ongoing mobilisation for the Red October Campaign. It will be remembered that the SACP met with Progressive organisations and NGO's involved in the struggle of the landless on the 15th September 2004, in Johannesburg.
This meeting will take place as follows:
Venue: Ugie - In U khahlamba District ( from Umtata is about 127 km and from Aliwaal north is about 281 km.
