Successful SACP Congress In KwaZulu Natal 30 June - 01 July Red Weekend Against Blacklisting (Focusing on Credit Bureaus)

Over the weekend, the KwaZulu Natal Province of the South African Communist
Party held a highly successful 3rd Congress at the M.L. Sultan Technikon in
Durban.
The Congress adopted several resolutions on consolidating the SACP, escalating the Campaign to Make Banks Serve the People, the peace process in KwaZulu Natal, the role of traditional leaders in a democratic society, and solidarity work with the oppressed people of Swaziland.
The Congress supported the call made by Blade Nzimande, SACP General Secretary, during his keynote address for a Red Weekend Against Blacklisting. The SACP is declaring the weekend of 30 June and 01 July as The Red Weekend Against Blacklisting. The SACP calls on all South Africans to take part in Provincial People's Public Hearings on how the functioning of the Credit Bureaus in our country prejudices access to credit by millions of our people.
On traditional leaders, the Congress resolved to call on traditional leaders not to be misled by forces that seek to attain narrow party political interests. The SACP calls on all traditional leaders in KwaZulu Natal and the country as a whole to put the people first by defying the call to boycott local government structures and ensuring that they contribute to service delivery to our people.
The Congress also approved plans for the Celebration of 80 Years of the SACP through a national rally to be held in Durban on 29 July. The Congress also worked out an extensive Celebrations programme which includes a public evaluation of the SACP through Workers and People's Assemblies to be held throughout the country in the month of July. These Assemblies are basically an expression of the SACP's confidence in the people a Party which is not afraid of being taught by and learning from the people, said Smiso Nkwanyana, newly elected Provincial Secretary of the SACP in KwaZulu Natal.
The Congress also took decisions on fighting opportunism and corruption inside and outside the SACP and the alliance as a whole through the improvement of systems and involvement of ordinary people against corruption.
The Congress also elected a new Provincial Leadership made up of 15 ordinary members and 5 office bearers which include re-elected Chairperson Cde Willis Mchunu,Deputy Chairperson Ephraim Ngcobo, and Deputy Secretary Zet Luzipho.
