Statement regarding the comments of the Western
Cape Organiser on the Tri-Partitie Alliance
21 November 1996
Newspapers and the media in general have run with a PA report that alleges
the SACP in the Western Cape is advocating the ending of the Alliance. The SACP
wishes to put on the record that this is not the view of the Party and neither
was the statement one the one that was made by Lizo Nobanda, made these remarks
in a private commnique to SAPA.
We believe that the views expressed by Nobanda, while he is entitled to hold
them, are neither constructive nor particularly relevant. The ongoing debate
about the Tri-Partite Alliance, the relationships between organisations of the
National liberation Movement, and the future of the SACP must be viewed in the
context of the very real threats and challenges to the transformation process in
our country. These dictate the need for maximum unity around common objectives
of the National Democratic revolution.
Nobanda has certainly erred in his presentation of his views but so have the
media who seek sensationalise issues and foster divisions in the Tri-Partitie
Alliance.
