The South African Communist Party (SACP) notes the allegations of impropriety against Comrade Lubabalo Mabuyane, ANC Provincial Chairperson and Comrade Babalo Madikizela, ANC Provincial Treasurer as reported by the Mail and Guardian and the Daily Dispatch. We wish to register our deepest concern in this regard.
The SACP views these reports to be of serious nature in the period of renewing both our country and our glorious movement. This period requires that all of us in the movement act and are portrayed by our actions in a manner that instils confidence in the African National Congress (ANC) led movement.
As the SACP, we are calling upon our ally, the ANC to look into the matter and take appropriate action. We are calling upon the ANC to effect its internal mechanism, like the integrity commission to ensure that all implicated comrades are afforded an opportunity to put their side. This ought to be done consistently with the ANC 54th National Conference commitment of reconnecting the ANC with the people and clean governance.
The SACP is of the firm view that the inaction will not be in line with the commitments of the ANC election manifesto, and a principled commitment to fight against corruption and to hold leadership accountable. We owe this to our people who supported the ANC in the face of many glaring weaknesses we have as movement because of our commitment for renewal and service to the people. It is on these bases and the work we have as the movement that our people have decided to support is in the last elections.
Issued by the SACP Eastern Cape.
