Wednesday, 25 September 2024: - The South African Communist Party (SACP) wishes a speedy recovery for the president of the People’s United Democratic Movement (PUDEMO), Comrade Mlungisi Makhanya, who has been hospitalised following a suspected poisoning incident in the early hours of Tuesday, 24 September 2024, in Tshwane, South Africa.

We also send our best wishes to his family, PUDEMO members, as well as the people of Swaziland fighting for democracy.

We call upon our police to take the matter seriously and investigate the circumstances which may have led to the suspected poisoning and, where there was foul play, ensure that those who are responsible are brought to justice.

The SACP reiterates its message of solidarity with the people of Swaziland in their fight for democracy and to this end calls upon more practical solidarity with the Swazi people for the unconditional unbanning of political parties, release of political prisoners and safe return of political exiles.
