The South African Communist Party (SACP) in the Chule KK Papiyane District (Sarah Baartman) welcomes both the fifteen (15) years and life sentences meted out to Thembani Kekana and Chris Makhanda who brutally killed our beloved comrade Siphiwo ‘Sparks’ Shoba. As the SACP, we are satisfied with this sentence as it sends out a clear message by our justice system to criminals who are hell-bent on killing innocent citizens.

Cde Sparks Shoba played a leading role in our District in the re-establishment of the Young Communist League of South Africa (YCLSA). He was elected as the first Deputy Secretary of the YCLSA in our District Executive Committee. He was subsequently elected to serve in our District Executive Committee as an Additional Member.

As the SACP, we reiterate our call to communities to work with the police in the fight against crime. It is our considered view that the only way to combat crime in our communities is through strengthening the Community Policing Forums and the implementation of our “Know Your Neighbourhood” Campaign. We reaffirm our strong held view of the need to build organs of people’s power like street and area committees as part of communities taking control of their areas.
