SACP Reports Back On the Banks Campaign in KwaZulu Natal

As part of the Red October Campaign to Make Banks Serve the People, the
South African Communist Party (SACP) will host a Public and Stakeholder's
Meeting for the KwaZulu Natal Province in the Durban City Hall as detailed
below.

TIME : 15h00 - 17h00
VENUE : Luthuli Hall, Durban City Hall Smith Street, Durban
The SACP General Secretary, Blade Nzimande will address this Public Meeting
reporting to the people of Durban about how far the campaign to make banks
serve the people is. The meeting will also be addressed by Deanne Collins, a
researcher at the University of Natal on how the public is exploited by
insurance companies and micro-lenders.
The meeting will be attended by the ANC, other political parties, COSATU Affiliates in KwaZulu Natal, SANCO, members of the Self-Employed Women's Union, other women's groups, the Diakonia Council of Churches, representatives of small business associations and youth organisations. The meeting will also be directed at how to form a KwaZulu Natal Provincial Campaign Forum to Make Banks Serve the People.This proposed forum will broaden this campaign and increase pressure on the banks, said Smiso Nkwanyana, SACP Provincial Secretary in KwaZulu Natal.
Through this meeting the SACP will also collect and consolidate demands on how to fundamentally transform the entire financial sector in our country. This is in advance of the NEDLAC Summit on the financial sector now scheduled to be held in the first quarter of 2002.
