SACP Mpumalanga statement on allegations against the General Secretary

16 August 2007

In its Provincial Working Committee, held on the 15th August 2007, the SACP Mpumalanga took note of the poisoned atmosphere as prevailing in the country.

We believe that the on coming national conference of the ANC, need to be managed in a constructive, matured manner rather than the manner it is handled now.

We are noting the manner in which media, state institutions and a whole range of other destructive tactics are abused/used to discredit other comrades.

We believe that at the core of all these spats and smearing campaigns is a capitalist onslaught, opportunistically encroaching within us, using some of us in order to destroy us.

Madisha`s allegations against our General Secretary are unfortunate and leave a lot to be desired. He accepted on a national radio that he did accept the money and took it to where it was intended to go, if it never reached us, then he must bring it to the party.

It is unfortunate that a high ranking member of the communist party and a leader of the advanced detachment of the working class, organised labour, could be so hell bent in attacking working class leaders in this country

He is always involved in controversies starting with the smearing campaigns meted against Cde Vavi before the last COSATU Congress and now is the General Secretary of the SACP. For the past 3-4 years, we`ve never heard him being as assertive as he was in pushing forward working class interests, instead, he has been vacillating.

We strongly believe that, the working class owes nobody no apology for waging a class struggle, it is a class struggle that is determined by objective realities of this world, no amount of re-actionery deeds will ever succeed in deterring it forever.

It is strange that he chose to keep quiet for the past 5 years to reveal such an anomaly and decide to reveal it 4 months before the major political ANC Conference in December. Working class leaders are being labelled and attacked as being corrupt by agents of the bourgeoisie, instead of defending the party, he is assisting re-actionery forces to deal with working class leaders in the country.

The PWC of Mpumalanga is completely dismayed of Madisha`s behaviour, President of COSATU, a federation with such a rich history in the struggle for the working class. We believe that the most honourable and revolutionary thing for him to do, for the sake of working class unity in the country, would be to resign because he has become a source of division.

We fully support the General Secretary of the SACP, we believe that all working class leaders of notable character, must brace themselves for the on coming bourgeois attack towards Limpopo. The attack on him is not an isolated case, it is a bourgeoisie onslaught against the working class leadership.
