SACP Mpumalanga Special PEC Statement

SACP Mpumalanga Special PEC Statement

12 May 2015

“Take Responsibility for the National Democratic Revolution”

The SACP in Mpumalanga Province convened a Special Plenary Session on Sunday, 10 May 2015 in eMalahleni. The meeting focused on political developments in the province and dealt with an item relating to the Provincial Chairperson’s address at the ANC Provincial General Council (PDC), as mandated by the 14th ordinary plenary session which took place on Sunday, 19 April 2015.

Arrest the perpetrators of political killing!

The PEC remains concerned by the delay in arresting political killers in the province. In the past seven years, Mpumalanga Province has been on the national limelight regrettably for sinister acts such as politicians being killed with no success of bringing to book the perpetrators. We however welcome the renewed commitment by the National Police Commissioner to resume investigations on these political killings.

We call on the ANC national leadership to take note of songs which were led by the ANC Provincial Chairperson DD Mabuza in the ANC PGC inciting the killing of SACP Provincial Secretary Comrade Bonakele Majuba and other leaders of the movement.

Meanwhile, we remain steadfast that we will never be intimidated by such counter-revolutionary actions.

Investigate the spy allegations!

We reiterate our call that the investigations on spy allegations must be speedily resolved as they are causing a lot of tensions in the province. These allegations are so serious and could be detrimental to the ANC-headed Alliance campaign towards the 2016 local government elections.

Uproot Corruption!

We are deeply concerned with the level of corrupt activities in the movement and the state within our province which arise from the use of the tendering system.

Mpumalanga province has a setback of service delivery due to conspicuous consumption of resources by lumpen-tenderpreneurs. Tenderpreneurship has also corrupted a number of our cadres in the broad movement. This parasitic pursuit of government tenders has split into major battles in our own Alliance structures within the province with leadership positions in government used to influence processes and dispense patronage.

We will heighten our anti-corruption campaign as mandated by the 13th National Congress of our Party.

Provincial Chairperson’s conduct.

Our Provincial Chairperson, Comrade Eric Kholwane was deployed to lead a delegation of the Party to the ANC PGC. Regrettably he is alleged to have raised matters contradicting Party resolutions in Mpumalanga. The message he delivered on behalf of the SACP pushed the Party into disrepute.

There are numerous activities that transpired whereby he has shown to be undermining the unity and cohesion of the organisation. Recently, he never attended the 14th Plenary Session, and did not even apologise, during the Politburo’s visit to the province; he failed to attend the weekend’s activities including the Provincial Chris Hani Memorial Lecture addressed by the Politburo.

Article 6 in the Party constitution, amongst other basic organisational principles stipulates that:, a member of the Party is expected to act, in his or her personal conduct, in a manner which will bring credit to the SACP and serve as a standard bearer of the highest communist ethic and morality and to secure the unity and cohesion of the SACP, members are obliged to defend the SACP and to carry out its decisions.

The PEC arrived to the conclusion that the Chairperson has perpetually failed to adhere to these and other fundamental principles of communist conduct expected of Party cadres and leaders; and that there should be means to rehabilitate his actions considering the important position he occupies in the organisation. The PEC, guided by the constitution of the organisation, unanimously resolved to suspend the provincial chairperson with immediate effect pending the disciplinary processes.
