SACP Mpumalanga Provincial Executive Committee Statement
21 July 2014
The 8th Congress Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) of the South African Communist Party (SACP) in Mpumalanga Province convened its 10th Plenary Session on Sunday, 20 July 2014 at Emalahleni. The meeting focused on political developments in the province, nationally and internationally. The meeting reflected on our campaigns in line with the Party Programme the South African Road to Socialism.
The meeting took place in the august month of our revolutionary icon, Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela, who is globally revered for bravery and commitment to unwavering dedication in defeating the brutal and injustice apartheid system. The PEC held a successful Nelson Mandela Lecture under the theme "Reclaiming Madiba as a working class leader".
We suffered a great loss in Comrade John Mthombeni
The SACP is saddened by the sudden death of Cde John Mthombeni, Ephraim Mogale DEC member and ANC Ward 8 Councillor in Dr JS Moroka local Municipality after he was involved in a car accident which claimed two lives. Cde John was a dedicated working class leader who faced persecution from the agents of Lumpen-tenderpreneurs in his tenure as a ward a councillor. The SACP expresses its heartfelt condolences to the friends, comrades and family of the deceased.
BRICS Development Bank:
We welcome the establishment of the BRICS Development Bank. We see this as introducing a radical shift in international power relations. The move must have consequences for the imperialists, especially the US and its allies, which have kept the whole of South America, Africa and other regions under their imperialist yoke for more than a century.
Stop US imperialism:
US imperialism backed by its European allies continues to be a negative factor across the globe. The silence in regard to the crisis in the Middle East in which Israeli is unleashing aggression on Palestine is in their best interest. The US has removed Swaziland from its African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) beneficiaries, but it is establishing a new embassy in the country, and has just concluded to build a massive airport in Swaziland. This is a sharp contradiction underscoring the hypocrisy of the US. The PEC resolved to continue organize a march to the American Embassy against U.S aggressive foreign policy.
Defeat Apartheid Israel
We join millions of protesters and marchers in condemning Israeli`s aggression and bombardment on Palestine. We call on all progressive forces to exert pressure on South African government to recall its Ambassador to Israel and to expel the Israeli Ambassador to South Africa. South Africa`s apartheid history is Palestine`s daily struggle. The international pressure is needed for a ceasefire and total liberation of the Palestinians from the Apartheid Israel. We reiterate our Party`s call for the boycott, divestment and sanctions against the apartheid Israel.
Intensify the struggle to obliterate Tinkundla Regime:
The SACP in the province will organize a picket to the Swazi Embassy calling for total unbanning of all political parties, unconditional release of the political prisoners and respect for human rights. We call on all Swaziland progressive organisations to unite for a common goal, which is to obliterate oppression in Swaziland.
We will convene a summit on Swaziland as a build up to the Global Week of Action against Swaziland. We call on our government to cut ties with the Tinkundla regime. ANC`s resolutions on Swaziland should be implemented in order to advance social cohesion within the SADC region.
The SABC Motsoeneng`s appointment SAGA:
SACP in the province condemns the Appointment of Hlaudi Motsoeneng as SABC COO in the strongest possible terms. Motsoeneng cannot be elevated to be someone of special breed, whose demeanour shall tower above all.
Whatever connections Motsoeneng or anyone has must not degenerate our nation and state entities into banana republic where anyone with resources and connections can wield special powers for appointment. The public broadcaster should inspire confidence and hope to the public. However, this matter of Motsoeneng and the alleged sentiments about the unqualified Chairperson of the board are a cause for serious concern.
Rollback Lumpen-tenderpreneurs in the Province
Lumpen-tenderpreneurs do not have respect for law and principle. Instead, they just master operating in mafia style, while masquerading as revolutionaries. We refuse to be subjected to the threat of apartheid terror tendencies, which were masterminded by STRATCOM reactionary tactics. Former apartheid spies, who worship money more than human lives, master patronage. They are trained to be anti-communist. Murderers will never deter us from fighting for a just society, especially in this province.
We are inspired by the resilience of the MK combatants when facing the brutal apartheid system. These combatants were left with only one choice: submit or fight. We choose the latter. We are ready to die standing than to be entangled into shackles of patronage and pocket policy.
We will be heading to the Minister of Justice, Constitutional Development and Correctional Services and the National Commissioner of Police to demand the release of the report on political killings in the province. We demand the arrest of those who committed those acts including the masterminds behind. The SACP wrote a letter to the National Commissioner as a follow-up for the memorandum which was submitted on 5 June 2013, calling for the release of the report.
Defend the revolution
The SACP in the province adopted a strategy in deepening and strengthening its organisational capacity to defeat Lumpen-tenderpreneuring. The SACP will embark on rigorous and protracted program of action in addressing working class interests.
Sky-rocketing toll fares
The PEC is concerned by the sky-rocketing toll fares which affect the working class and the poor.
93rd SACP anniversary
The PEC will convene the 93rd Anniversary Provincial Rally under the theme "Socialism and Struggle for Environmental Justice" in Hazyview, Mbombela on 26 July 2014.
