SACP Mpumalanga media statement
28 June 2010
The PEC of the Party set on the 27th June 2010 to reflect on the political and organizational issues taking place in the province, including process of government and service delivery, key to the political issues raised was the nature of the NDR which we believe entails three interconnected contradictions, ourselves as the Party believe that the national struggle is dominant but the class struggle is fundamental, as the South African Road to Socialism declares that it is a struggle to place social needs above private profits.
The PEC noted that there is a danger to a thorough going NDR, which is posed by the corrupt behavior of tenderpreneurs, who use political connections in the movement to achieve their personal interest. The PEC believes that this kind of behavior is the root cause of failed states and revolutions in the rest of our continent.
The PEC further raised sharply the issue of intimidation to the people and leaders who are raising concerns about corruption in our society by corrupt individuals, who believe that they are entitled to corruption and can appropriate wealth. This kind of behavior is also found in parastatals where elites are serving their own interest through high salaries and unjustified bonuses, whilst ordinary workers in these parastatals are earning starvation salaries and majority of them cannot afford decent houses for their families.
The PEC noted that the world cup has brought national pride and positive international exposure which will bring about economic benefits in the country in generally and will also have positive spin offs on tourism in our province. The infrastructure development will leave a lasting legacy to most of our hosting cities particularly Mbombela city in our province. Immediately after the world cup the working class will remain unemployed and poverty stricken.
The PEC also noted with concern the alarming levels of Crass materialism, the display of opulence, arrogance against the working class, driving very expensive cars, wearing designer suits, BEE shoes and drinking very expensive whiskeys by those who are supposed to be peoples leaders, while majority of the people are impoverished and unemployed.
After listening to the presentation of Cogta MEC, especially about the Balfour situation not undermining the working class there and their demands but we remain convinced that the instigators of instability are Tenderpreneurs who wants to advance their narrow selfish business interest.
The PEC resolved to immediately after the world cup to organize a march against corruption in the province, and to engage both department of Education and Health to improve on service delivery and fight against corruption within their ranks, especially Education to improve on Matric results and provide security for exam papers not ever to leak again.
The SACP wishes all the remaining teams all of the best in the quest of becoming the best football team in the world.
