SACP Mpumalanga Media Statement
15 February 2010
The SACP in Mpumalanga together with the alliance partners held a Conference of Commissars from the 12th 14th February 2010. The objective of the Conference was to reflect on historic and present process of implementing our National Democratic Revolution.
This was an important intervention to bring our alliance partners as ANC, COSATU and SANCO to focus on key issues, like Local Government, National Health Insurance, our approach to Social and Economic Transformation and Rural Agrarian Transformation.
On Social Transformation, Education and Health was highlighted as an area that still needs serious intervention in our province, but more especially Education as indicated by the fact that our province has being performing badly in comparison to national average performance in the matric results. We further noted the programmatic intervention mentioned by the President on the State of the Nation Address, which we believe are taking us forward.
The alliance further agreed that Local Government should be part of our joint programme, to ensure that the turn around strategy by Cogta should indeed restore the intergrity of Local Municipalities to the community within which they are operating. The Building of institutional capacity and improving human and financial capacity to ensure that our Local Municipailty are responsive to the needs of their constituency.
We noted with concern the murder of our comrades in the province where perpetrators are not arrested and it will lead to impunity. We further noted with serious concern the reported alleged hit list which is circulating in our province and meant to intimidate comrades from participating freely in the political life of our movement. This alleged hit list need to be investigated whether it is authentic or not, if it found to be authentic, those thugs must be arrested with immediate effect. We therefore call on comrades to condemn such behavior, as it borders on counter revolution.
The conference further highlighted the need to continue with such conferences in our districts, as part of reviving the revolutionary morality which seems to be whining in our movement and being replaced by crass materialism.
