SACP Mpumalanga Media Statement
20 May 2008
The Special PEC meeting convened on the 18 May 2008 at Witbank SACP provincial office to discuss amongst other things the unnecessary reshuffling of the provincial cabinet in Mpumalanga.
We believe that the timing of that reshuffling, immediately after the Limpopo conference in December, few months before both provincial conference and national elections campaigns, is questionable.
The manner in which it was done, abruptly without any consultation of other alliance partners, disregard the spirit and letter of the Limpopo conference.
We are convinced that this reshuffling smack of political manoeuvring aimed at achieving some hidden political agendas.
Our further concern is the lack of stability in our provincial cabinet, due to reshuffles.
We have also noted with concern that, MECs with trade union background are always the ones that get ousted from the cabinet.
We shall be calling for an urgent alliance meeting in the province, to discuss ways and means of how to bring political stability and cohesion.
We are convinced that our Premier cde Thabang Makwetla, is as of now struggling to run the province, hence so many reshufflings, for the stability of the province and proper service delivery, he should be redeployed somewhere immediately.
We fully support the Central Committee decision of the Party calling for the release of the President of the country, were convinced that his continuous presence, poses challenges to the smooth transition that also has a bearing even to provinces.
