The SACP in the Chule “KK” Papiyane District, Sarah Baartman Region, has learnt with deep shock and sadness, of the death of its district executive committee member, Comrade Thulani Grootboom. The SACP expresses its heartfelt condolences to the Grootboom family for the loss encountered.

Comrade Thulz, as he was affectionately known, died at an East London hospital in the early hours of Monday, 18 March 2019, after a short illness. He was a product of our national democratic revolutionary alliance’s preparatory school, having served in the lower structures of the Young Communist League of South Africa, during its re-establishment period, and later as a member of the African National Congress Youth League’s regional executive committee.

He also served as a councillor (proportional representative) of the ANC at the Sundays River Valley Local Municipality from 2011 until 2016. Cde Thulz continued to serve his community even after this deployment ended, and when he was, during period, unemployed.

At the time of his death, he was the chairperson of the school governing body at A.V. Bukani Primary School in Addo. He was also the ANC deputy branch secretary of Ward 6 in the Sundays River Valley sub-Region in Sarah Baartman Region.

The Party dips its revolutionary flag in honour of Cde Thulz.

Details of memorial and funeral services will be announced in due course, after consultation with the family.
