SACP Moses Kotane Province dips its banner in honour of Comrade Deliwe Sethi

26 March 2021

The South African Communist Party (SACP) in Moses Kotane (North West) Province has received with shock and deep sadness the news of the untimely passing away of one of its Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) members, Comrade Deliwe Sethi. She had been ill for some time and died on Wednesday 24 March 2020, just a few days after being discharged from hospital.

The SACP in Moses Kotane sends its heartfelt and revolutionary condolences to her family and the people of Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati Region and the province as a whole. In her passing away, the SACP in the province has lost a formidable fighter for working-class power and gender equality.

Comrade Deliwe was a loyal and dedicated member of the SACP who served our party and the working class selflessly. She was part of our trusted collective of PEC deployees to our Joe Nkosi District. She was a long-standing PEC member and a dedicated gender activist and a former councillor and Speaker at Taung Local Municipality.

Her unwavering commitment to the advancement of the national democratic revolution and the struggle for socialism shall never be forgotten. Comrade Deliwe departs at a time when our country and the world still grapple with the ravages of the Covid-19 pandemic which has taken the lives of many and taken away people’s livelihoods.

She departs at a time when the country is still battling with the scourge of gender-based violence and femicide directed mainly on women.

The working class still faces the fourfold crisis of capitalism (the economic crisis, the crisis of social reproduction, the pandemic crisis, and the climate change crisis). On the domestic front, the economic crisis is manifested through neoliberalism and its austerity agenda or fiscal consolidation by treasury, which involves either budget cuts affecting social spending and other imperatives, or the suppression of social development spending.

She leaves us at a time when unemployment and inequality are a stubborn feature in our province and the country at large. Our country is still faced with the crisis of social reproduction whose key indicator is the widespread problem of households unable to support themselves. These are some of the contemporary struggles that Comrade Deliwe was seized with as a communist activist.

We lower our red flag in her honour.

Rest in peace Comrade Deliwe, Communist to the end!
