The (South African Communist Party) SACP in the Limpopo Province and throughout the length and breadth of South Africa dips its red banner in honour and memory of some of our most dedicated, committed and selfless cadres, Comrades Eddy Managa and Sam Manganyi. We received news of their untimely demise in the new year with sadness, sorrow and heavy hearts. Our eyes are filled with tears as we remember their tireless commitment to the national democratic revolution and the struggle for a socialist South Africa.
Comrade Eddy Managa joined the liberation struggle in the roaring eighties as part of the death-defying youth of the revolution. He was a dedicated student activist at the then University of the North, Turfloop Campus. He was an AZASO activist on campus. He was also part of the Far North youth activists involved in the escalation of the liberation struggle in the area and building Youth Congresses in the area which work he carried out very well. In later years he was involved in the re-establishment of the SACP presence in South Africa after the unbanning in 1990. He was then elected to the first SACP PEC in the Northern Transvaal Inaugural Conference in 1995. He was re-elected many times. He was also later elected the Provincial Treasurer of the SACP in the then Northern Province. In the public service he served from the lowest levels and rose through the ranks over the years. In the last few years, he was a Deputy-Director General in the Premiers Office of Limpopo Provincial Government. He was a dedicated cadre who put his energies, skills, and experience at the disposal of the liberation and the people of South Africa whom he served tirelessly and selflessly for almost four decades. We will continue where he left to deepen, defend, and advance the National Democratic Revolution and continue the struggle to build a socialist future. We pay deserved tribute to this outstanding son of the soil. May his soul rest in peace.
Comrade Sam Manganyi was a dedicated, selfless, and militant student leader in SASCO and Student Representative Council at Makhado College of Education. He joined the teaching profession and played a leading role in the establishment of SADTU structures in the North East Region and became the Chairperson of Giyani North Branch and later the SADTU North East Regional Secretary. He became the longest serving Chairperson of ANC Enock Ringani Branch and was elected to serve in Greater Giyani Municipality as a councillor and head of the MPAC portfolio as a member of the Executive Committee of Council.
Cde Sam Manganyi was a refined Marxist, he was grounded in and practiced scientific Marxist-Leninist theory of the revolution. He became the longest serving Chairperson of SACP Lawrence Phokanoka District. His participation and eloquent contributions to debates in congresses were remarkable. He was a rounded cadre, a humble servant of the people, a working-class leader and a true revolutionary. In him, there was a confluence of theory and practice. He was an embodiment of the Alliance and he was very committed to the struggle to reconstruct society through the national democratic revolution as a direct route to socialism. The SACP lost Cde Sam when he left Limpopo Province for Gauteng, and now shockingly when we learnt of his passing.
The Party sends its message of heartfelt condolences to the Managa and Manganyi families, the Alliance, and public service. May their revolutionary souls rest in eternal peace.
