SACP Gauteng supports changes in the Provincial Cabinet

4 February 2016

The SACP Gauteng Province convened a Special Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) meeting on Wednesday, 03 February 2016 at its provincial office in Johannesburg.

The PEC received a detailed briefing on current political developments in the province. The principal focus was on the progress our alliance is registering in preparation of the 2016 local government elections, aspects of provincial governance and the Young Communist League of South Africa (YCLSA).

On Local Government Elections

The SACP expressed confidence on the alliance election campaign and notes considerable progress by government in changing improving the lives of our people. The province will continue enhancing its focus on working class communities to deepen transformation and roll back the legacy of colonialism of poverty, unemployment and inequality.

It also noted that in spite of serious organisational progress being registered, there were some pockets of electoral intolerance manifesting in some parts of braches in our movement. The SACP calls on the alliance in the province to close ranks and ensure strict adherence to nationally agreed approaches to candidate selection, in particular the practice of consulting our communities regarding ANC candidates for local government elections.

Whilst also calling for maximum discipline, the SACP Gauteng reasserted its strong support of the alliance, through a program of action, in favour of an overwhelming ANC victory in Gauteng in the next local government elections.

On deepening ideological work in our structures

The province undertook to deepen class consciousness of our members and agreed to pay urgent attention to ongoing party building work in the province. All our commissions will undertake intensive work geared towards completing this task.

On Provincial Cabinet reshuffling

The SACP reiterates the joint alliance statement in welcoming the changes announced by the Gauteng Premier Comrade David Makhura. In this regard the PEC takes the opportunity to once more congratulate the Gauteng Provincial Chairperson of the ANC in his new appointment.

It also appreciates the important work by Comrade Jacob Mamabolo in his previous position and expresses confidence in his ability to contribute positively in his new responsibility.

The SACP Gauteng also wished all the redeployed comrades well in their new responsibilities.

On the Young Communist league of South Africa

The SACP Gauteng agreed to convene an urgent bilateral meeting with the YCL with the view of strengthening its political, organizational and ideological work amongst young people in the province..
