SACP Gauteng strongly condemns the USA Administration’s continued detention of the Cuban Five

24 March 2013

SACP Gauteng held a successful solidarity rally during the Human Rights Month, on the 24th March 2013 in Johannesburg calling for the immediate and unconditional release of the Cuban Five revolutionaries: Ramon Labanino, Gerardo Hernandez, Antonio Guerrero, Rene Gonzales and Fernando Gozalez. These revolutionaries, the Cuban Five, are currently languishing in the USA Imperialist prisons.

The rally was addressed by a member of the 13th National Congress Central Committee and Deputy Minister of Rural Development and Land Reform, comrade Lechesa Tsenoli (MP). The rally received key-note address from Deputy Ambassador of the Cuban Embassy, His Excellency, comrade Elio Savon Oliva.

Alliance partners also delivered messages of support, with the African National Congress (ANC) represented by PEC member and head of ANC Subcommittee on International Relations, comrade Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko (MPL), Cosatu by its Provincial Secretary, comrade Dumisani Dakile, Young Communist League of SA by its Provincial Secretary and Deputy National Secretary, comrade Alex Mashilo, Friends of Cuba Society (FOCUS) by its Deputy National Secretary, comrade Clever Banganayi.

The rally strongly condemned the continued illegal detention of the Cuban Five and called for their immediate release by the USA Imperialist regime led by its puppet master, President Barack Obama.

The rally pledged its unwavering support for the consistent, inspiring and most revolutionary fighting spirit of the Cuban Five and their spirit of no-compromise with Imperialism. The rally also extended its solidarity with the families, wives and children of the Cuban Five.

The Commander in Chief, Comrade Fidel Castro and his most trusted friend, comrade Tata Nelson Mandela received messages of good health and good life.

SACP also called for the immediate lifting of the most barbaric, backward, inhuman and brutal economic blockade imposed on Cuba since 1961 and still in place to date. SACP deeply appreciated the fact that the economic blockade failed to break the solid unity of the people of Cuba.

SACP further appreciated the fact that even in the midst of the economic blockade, Cuba has the best education and health system and its economy has remained strong to date, feeding and sustaining the lives of its 11 million people. SACP is deeply moved by thedetermination and spirit of unity of the Cuban people to defend their country and fight against US Imperialism.

SACP closed the rally by announcing that a date will be set following consultation with Alliance and fraternal structures for a protest march to be directed against the USA Embassy in Pretoria, and this will bedone taking into account the fact that the President of Imperialist USA, Barak Obama intends visiting South Africa in the near future.
