SACP Gauteng shocked by Johannesburg Housing Company (JHC)`s eviction of Mama Mdluli and her paralysed child Lindukuhle
10 December 2013
SACP Gauteng is shocked that as the nation and world mourns the death of comrade Nelson Mandela, a capitalist housing monopoly, JHC, evicted a 58 year old mother and her paralysed child from Newtown Housing Village in Fordsburg, Johannesburg. The eviction that occurred under a chilly and heavily pouring rainy weather was in execution of a court order granted to JHC by the South Gauteng High Court last week.
SACP is disturbed that the eviction of a 58 year old mother and her paralysed child was executed by five trucks carrying an estimated 100 heavily armed notorious Red Ants. We are further shocked that in the process of eviction, the paralysed child sustained serious facial injuries.
MamaMdluli has since laid a charge of assault (with intent to do grievous bodily harm) at the Johannesburg Central Police Station.
SACP strongly condemns the eviction, and the manner in which it was executed as the most cruel, inhuman, and barbaric act that undermines the values, principles and cause that Nelson Mandela stood and died for, and that of our country`s constitution. The eviction constitute a classical case of the collusion between the judiciary as an organ of the state and monopoly capital against the vulnerable working class and poor, especially women, elderly, disabled and children.
SACP strongly condemns the failure of the court to defend vulnerable groups against profit interests of monopoly capital.
As we said last week after the court eviction, the court in granting the order, should have first satisfied itself, through proper inspection that the alleged claim of alternative accommodation by JHC met the special needs and requirements of a paralysed child.
This failure by the court to defend the interests of a disabled child and her mother in favour of profits is the most serious setback and failure of our justice system collaborating with monopoly capital. This sad development, happens on the last day of UN led 16 Days Campaign.
SACP recommit and vows to fight this battle against JHC monopoly capital to defend vulnerable sections of our society, the working class and poor. This battle we shall fight inspired by the courage and spirit of Nelson Mandela.
