JOHANNESBURG – The South African Communist Party (SACP) in Gauteng is expected to protest outside the offices of news channel ANN7 today.

The demonstration is against the alleged victimisation of staff.

The party says it stands in solidarity with the workers, who face being fired after chasing away African National Congress Youth League president Collen Maine from the company premises earlier this year.

ANN7, which is owned by the Gupta family, has come under fire for its alleged abuse of staff and unfair disciplinary processes.

The SACP says today’s demonstration is part of its ongoing campaign for media transformation.

Provincial secretary Jacob Mamabolo said: "Workers really are working under extremely severe and very difficult conditions. They’re not enjoying rights that are enjoyed by many workers in South Africa and therefore we’ll be going there to pledge solidarity with the workers."
