SACP Gauteng applauds Birchwood Workers great victory on their reinstatement
13 November 2015
The South African Communist Party (SACP) Gauteng Province greets the victory of SACCAWU members and employees of the Birchwood Hotel following a reinstatement agreement struck yesterday, after 139 of them were dismissed by the hotel management in September.
Whilst the Birchwood management attributes the dismissals to a downturn spiral in profits over the last few months, the SACP discovered that this decision bears no relation to reality. It had no rational business underpinnings, but was instead a grandiose product of surreptitious restructuring conducted over months, by the new Birchwood CEO.
The Birchwood CEO is one of the 'filthy' type that lends spurious support to the science-fiction of ideologically driven business models based on an all out attack on workers.
These are the new potently power drunk corporate CEO's who criminally violates workers and their social interests and absurdly believe they can hollow out peoples livelihoods by a stroke of a pen based on some doctrinal business models application.
The SACP is proud of and commends the enormous efforts by its structures in the province, in particular the Ekurhuleni SACP district and the Young Communist League (YCL) in Gauteng, for providing consistent solidarity support to workers who for the past two months never deserted the picket line.
We reiterate our call against outsourcing, casualisation, labour broking and privatisation. These have their basis on the greedy capitalist system of private profits. The only antidote of this is the final overthrow of the system and in its place, the institution of production for the satisfaction of all material and cultural needs of society, a system of socialist production.
